Sajilo Stones in the River
As Tahendra put her hand into the stream to grab a Sajilo Stone shock waves reverberated through her body and she saw a face looking through the water at her. It smiled and winked.
Tahendra pulled her hand out of the water and sat back on the beach, closed her eyes and began to think. A memory from the far recesses of her mind stirred. She knew it was important. She tried to concentrate. Her mind went blank. She leaned forward again and looked into the river. What had that person been? She got down on her knees again and placed her hand back into the water
Sam was watching his friend and was surprised by the effort it took to take a small blue stone from the river. What was she doing? He turned and saw Kassara was watching her every move too.
Tahendra, hand in the water again closed her eyes and felt something brush along her hand. She was certained it was a spirit in the water. The pulse she’d felt a moment ago came back mildly now. She opened her eyes and saw the face clearly. It looked like a picture from the Wenderfaren Valley, in the cottage where they stayed in their first week. “Are you....The Maiden?” she asked softly.
The face in the water smiled. “I am here to take care of you. Take my Sajilo Stone. I will help when you carry my special stones. I will keep you strong. Please carry them for me to your destination.....” The face vanished. Tahendra reached down wanting to take the most perfect stone she could. This, she knew, would provide magical help for the days to come.
Sam and Kassara watched Tahendra closely. She stood up, holding her small stone in her hand. When she turned to look at them her eyes were larger, opened wider than before. What had happened? They looked at one another, each feeling nervous for their turn to take a stone. Thankfully it was Jaime’s turn next.
Jaime nearly skipped down to the stream. He was going to get a lucky stone to make his life easier. Isn’t that what the Sajilo Stones were? Easy stones he remembered Kelne telling him.
As he knelt down, the water filled with mystery. Shadows hung in the light. Something was different here. The beautiful teal blue stones reached out to him. “Pick me. Pick me,” they called. They looked closer to the surface now. Was it okay to pick more than one, he wondered to himself. Jaime closed his eyes, deciding to let the river help him choose.
